Health and Environmental Policies

The University Health Service (UHS) is UPLB’s DOH-accredited secondary-level hospital, catering to the health care needs primarily of its students, employees and their dependents, and secondarily, to the needs of the Los Baños community and neighboring communities.

Environmental Policies

UPLB, as a state university, has been committed to the national and global environmental protection through various proactive environmental activities and programs. It has the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM) which seeks to understand the totality of the environment that the human society has created.

Recently, UPLB established the Interdisciplinary Life Cycle Assessment Laboratory (ILCAL). ILCAL focuses on studying the environmental footprint of products using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. It was developed by the previous vice chancellor for research and extension, Dr. Rex B. Demafelis.

“Knowing the environmental footprint of a commodity can inform government and private institutions about solutions to lessen their harmful contribution to the environment. It also helps us inform the public about environment-friendly products available in the market. We want to be recognized as the national center of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) that agencies assigned to craft and direct policies related to environmental footprints can always rely on.” said Dr. Demafelis, who also chairs ILCAL.
