History
After the College of Human Ecology was established, the Department of Human Nutrition and Food (DHNF) was elevated to Institute of Human Nutrition and Food (IHNF) in May 19, 1988. This is in response to the need to develop human nutrition as a discipline in a University campus with an agriculture and rural development thrust. Along with the thrust, the IHNF is tasked to perform the following:

- Conduct applied and action-oriented research activities and projects aimed at investigating the interrelationships of the environment and the nutriture of man; and
- Develop training materials to foster better understanding and appreciation of the principles of human nutrition and food and health for the use in the continuing education program of the Institute.
